Contains spoilers:I originally read a sample of this book and thought it seemed interesting. Nothing amazing, but it got my attention enough to purchase it and keep reading.
Almost immediately after, I regretted it. This book is why I now know I can return Kindle books on amazon.
It seems like at about 35% the author forgot what book she was writing and it went from semi suspenseful to straight out quirky (and not in a good way) romantic comedy (also, not executed well).
We see Honor, who had been kidnapped while going for her daily run in what was a decently written scene that included enough detail and seriousness to hook me (read SUCKER me into buying), go from serious, rational, determined but scared to brainless, horny, internally narrating her completely out of place and irrational attraction to her rescuer while also trying to be witty (and failing miserably). All this, mind you, while her sadistic kidnapper is currently in pursuit of them through the woods she was just rescued from.
Nothing past that 35% mark meshes with the beginning of the book or the plot. It completely threw me out of the story and I immediately hated Honor and found her so irritating.
She has fleeting thoughts that are just stupid and seem like and attempt by the author to make her seem tough but just come off as idiotic. For instance, she’s in the hospital, just woke up and sees her IV and, for some unknown reason, contemplated pulling it out. She’s not confused, she knows where she is and why she’s there, she remembers everything very clearly, yet thinks pulling out her IV is a good idea. Then, genius that she is, she realizes the meds that are taking her pain away are probably coming from there and decides to leave it in. What was even the point of that whole bit? Nothing, there was none. This segues into her describing how hot her rescuer is, amazed that his biceps are so large she PROBABLY couldn’t wrap her HAND around one and let her fingers touch. Uh, DUH. Unless he’s about 6 months old, I should hope you couldn’t wrap one hand around the bicep of ANY male and have your fingers touch because either you have grotesquely long fingers or the person you are with is fatally emaciated.
We are then treated to an ENTIRE page dedicated to describing him in detail. Not in any interesting, literary way, just a literal round down of his features from the cut of his hair to exactly where each and every scar is, the length of his stubble, those non-emaciated arms, etc, etc. An entire page.
This is followed by the author changing her mind again, and going back to try to create some angst, bring the tone back to serious with talk about pain, his and hers, but it just doesn’t work. You can’t go from cracking stupid jokes and having the h be completely casual about everything to suddenly she’s trying to seem deep, especially if the writing isn’t skilled enough to make it work, and here, it isn’t. She quickly goes back to fawning over her new love (they’ve exchanged next to no conversation at this point) and being unreasonably rude to the police officers who come to take her statement even though just pages ago, she was adamant that she needed to speak to them because the kidnapper can’t be allowed to continue doing this to others. Nothing works here. After reading up to this point, I read another review and she has it right. The timing destroys the story too. Literally, within minutes of being rescued from a guy who was about to murder you, this after he was just groping you and rubbing his junk on you, you’re in the mood to get all ga-ga over your rescuer? Minutes!!!! The bad guy is still lurking about!!! Like in your vicinity!!!! Really?
Ugh, there’s just so much wrong with this book, which is sad because the premise had so much potential.
I’ve read books with serious themes that incorporate humor and a lightness to create an enjoyable read, Kristen Ashley is a good example of this. You don’t have to take it too seriously, but you can get a good dose of drama, humor and suspense in one easy, quick read. I’ve read others that stick to one genre or the other, but do it well. This book can’t decide what it wants to be and tries to be everything, doing none of it well.
If you don’t care for good writing and interesting, relatable characters, you may enjoy this.
I’m currently at 49% and having such a hard time convincing myself to waste any more time on this.

Text Take It Off Book 4 edition by Cambria Hebert Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Wait what, it's not a pure romance story? No definitely not, this is a romantic suspense, I'm going outside the box a little with this one.
Text is Number 4 in Cambria Heberts Take it off series. There are 10 books so far but each one is a stand alone.
Text starts of nice and quickly with Honor's kidnapping. Honor is a strong woman, she fights for escape and survival, until it's impossible.
Nathan is a marine, highly trained but mentally struggling with his own demons. When he gets a random "reply" text from the man sitting at the poker table he knows something is off. Discovering the truth sets him into action.
Thrown together to survive a mad man in the dark, in the middle of dense bush land and a thunder storm Nathan and Honor are instantly connected. Two strong survivor instincted people with an instant soul connection makes for a heart racing nail biting story. While Honor is strong and determined to survive she's also scared but Nathan is reassuring he won't leave her.
Surviving that night of hell, bound them together where leaving isn't an option.
"Your still here!
I told you I wouldn't leave"
Then it all comes down to one night. The frightful reality, the violent end! But the light at the end of it all is beautiful.
I must say I throughly enjoyed this book. There are a few little things that bugged me, like not being able to see a persons features due to the intense darkness but being able to make out the colour of fall leaves. If it's dark it's dark. Also Honor's naivety with being determine to stay home alone the day she's released from hospital when she knows her kidnapper, would be rapist and murderer is still out there. Even if she allowed someone to stay with her, it wouldn't have taken from the story of how strong she is. In fact if she allowed Nathan to stay with her it may have added even more to their intense chemistry. I'd have also liked a bit more aftermath story for the lead up the the epilogue.
I'll definitely be reading more from this series.
