I usually don't enjoy stories based on Victorian England, except for Amanda Quick's novels. This is a story about a dedicated teacher whose first consideration is protecting and teaching her students. Concordia Glade had Ben raised by unorthodox parents who raised her to find ways to vercome the restrictions society placed upon young women who did not have society ties to protect them, or who were opposed to arranged, loveless marriages. She was offered a position as headmistress to a school whose students are 4 young girls whose parents recently died and who were brought first to an orphanage and then to this school. It becomes obvious that both she and her students are in danger. While she devises a way of removing the girl's from harms way, they meet a man who provides a way to keep them safe while trying to learn who is trying to hold them prisoners and why.
Like all of Amanda Quick's stories, the characters brink humor and the unexpected to the mystery. I never cease to enjoy the characters, story and sense of rebellion against societies restrictions that these novels present.

Amanda Quick is such an amazing author. She pulls you in right from the beginning. Her writing is such a step up from so many other romance novels. She's brilliant and I've read almost all her books at least twice. I love her!!!
Jayne Krentz's Victorian England historical with Concordia Glade & Ambrose Wells. This group of 3 stories have the women with paranormal intuitive talents and the men have been part of a secret martial arts society. I like how she creates a wonderful dialogue between the two main characters - that's always my favorite part other than the "meet cute" of course!
I just finished reading this book. In my opinion, it is a very good book. It has romance, a bit of mystery and plenty of action.
Historical romance novel by Jayne Ann Krentz published under her pseudonym Amanda Quick. This story is mostly of interest to her fans and collectors of her novels, it is not one of her better efforts. Listed as a Vanza novel, it was a series that did not go very far, but is interesting as a prelude to her more popular Arcane series. Vanza is a mysterious martial arts and contemplative discipline and does not include any paranormal elements. Still, any novel by Jayne Ann Krentz is better than most of what is offered in Romance so if you are looking for a good author, I do recommend her works. I liked the Vanza concept but the novels she wrote for it are not great, but okay if you are looking for something to read.
I really enjoyed reading “Lie by Moonlight “. It was a fun story about a woman raised in a community of modern thinking people in Victorian time England. It has romance adventure and love. All the requirements needed for a great read
Jayne Ann Krentz writes here as Amanda Quick, creating her historical paranormal romance-adventures. The teacher in a tiny private girls' school becomes aware that something is wrong and her (teenage) girls are in danger from the school supervisors. She and they set out to escape and in the process join forces with a private inquiry agent, who has been looking into a different issue but involving the same people. The two join forces and, aided peripherally by the girls, figure out what is amiss. The teacher is a very "modern-thinking" sort, who doesn't buy the traditional limited roles for women and who wants to be the supervisor of a cutting edge girls' school. She and the gentleman detective respect each other and have a growing relationship.
It felt like an Agatha Christie mystery with a little romance thrown in. Ambrose used to be a thief but is now a private inquiry agent (private investigator). He sees Cordelia (a teacher) and her four female students running away from a fire and helps them. The girls had been kidnapped and the plan was to sell them. Some people are murdered in connection with the events. The story had no major flaws, but overall, I did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped. I wasn't surprised or delighted. Once or twice the story felt a little plodding and slow, especially at the beginning. Cordelia and the girls were escaping from the castle and the girls kept expressing their fears. Cordelia kept saying we've practiced this before, just keep to the plan. I like strong and smart heroines as much as anyone, but Cordelia was unpleasantly strong and smart. She was almost too bossy, too perfect and overly confidant that she could handle herself in any dangerous situation. She was too demanding that Ambrose include her or do certain things. Overall, the story was ok, but I wouldn't recommend buying it.
Sexual language mild. Number of sex scenes two brief scenes. Setting Victorian England, sometime around 1890. Genre historical romantic mystery with suspense.
