This is a story that grabs you from the beginning. Even though it's a long novel it goes by so fast it still seems too short. It kind of reminded me of the movie The Wedding Singer a bit and I like that movie so that's a good thing. The writing is very good and the story easily kept my attention.

There are so many different feelings experienced in this novel. I liked going on the journey with Evan and Sarah as they decide what love really is and if it's worth taking a risk for.

Rating: PG-13 to R There is a lot of talk of sex and profanity. As far as the graphic-ness there is like one or two paragraphs with descriptions so if you don't like that kind of info give this novel a pass. I don't so I'm not sure if I will read more by this author in the future. It's also the reason I gave this novel 4 instead of 5 stars.

Low Re-Readability (For me because of the graphic nature of some of it. If that had been left out I probably would rate it high.)

P.S. - If anyone has read any of the authors other novels could you please comment and let me know if they are graphic as well? Thanks!! :)

If you enjoyed this book or even kind of liked it I highly recommend Dan Taylor is Giving Up on Women

What Might Have Been Matt Dunn 9781477825020 Books Reviews

This story is a rollercoaster ride of emotional turmoil. It is an interesting mix of colorful characters and office politics and romance as well as a look at jazz musician jobs. Sometimes the emotional monologue is redundant and repetitious , but the players are interesting and the story is real. It is a good read.
I have read many of Matt Dunn's books and they never disappoint me. His style has just enough fun, just enough despair, just a good mix to keep you interested a keep you reading to discover what happens next. He can make you root for both sides and truly get involved with the characters. A good read as always.
Evan is a musician who falls in love with Sarah the first night he meets her. Then it's off to a year long tour with the Police. He comes back to London to fight for Sarah who is about to be married in a week.
It took me a while to read this book because i had completely stopped reading it. It was interesting concept and it was a good book. Because the author is British, i kinda didnt understand his writing, but once i sat down and really read this book, it was actually good. The story sorta jumped a year but this gap was filled with amazing details.
It's well after 3 a.m. And here I am. Just finished reading "What Might Have Been". I'm sure tomorrow morning I'll wish I could have put it aside and gone to bed, but that didn't happen. So, beware! Once you get into this story you're doomed to want to read it to the end. What a pleasure to "see" London and get to know all of the interesting characters you wouldn't get to meet while sitting in your most comfortable chair reading a fine love story.
This unique story about a one-night stand is an easy read, but one you won't want to put down. Encompassing an unknown jazz musician, the streets and pubs of London and the high life of the wealthy, it is both enchanting and mysterious. Not the usual genre picked by me to read, I was very surprised to find out how much this little novel held my attention. Reading more of this author is a must. Enjoy!
Very well written - its been a long time since I found a book that I didn't want to put down - and "What Might Have Been" surpassed all expectations! I found myself reading every chance I had (even waiting in line at the supermarket!!) The story is broken down into two parts - the first part is a less than 48 hour account 10 years prior to the 2nd part. Its very rare for me to find myself "yelling" at a character in a book to "just do it!" but I caught myself several times over the course of this book. Very easy read that never allows a dull moment. They should definitely make a movie based upon this book... or better yet - a 2nd book to pick up where this book left off!
