Explore what matters most in Peggy Merriman’s haunting debut collection, Otherwise Known; The Story of A Life Otherwise Known, A Life Not So Different From Your Own...

A rare blend of poetry and prose, this stunning compilation tackles some of life’s most relevant and immediate themes head on.

The author’s exploration of dreams, the subject of which plays an integral part in poems such as “The Awakening,” challenges the borders that seemingly exist between reality and fantasy in a way that evokes deep emotion and reflection within the reader.

Meanwhile, in poems like “Seeing Beyond,” death is probed as something not wholly permanent. Merriman’s own experiences, which inform all of the works within Otherwise Known drives home this particular point when discussing the life-changing experience she had with her own deceased father a year after his passing.

Poems such as “The Chrysalis” delve into the physical and emotional state of disease, challenging the reader to examine their own perceptions of what it means to be “abled” and “disabled."

These themes and more are expertly navigated in both poetry and prose, with each poem followed by a thorough explanation of the people and places which inspired it. Through this format, readers are able to catch a glimpse of the fascinating artistic workings inside Merriman’s mind. Otherwise Known is about physical and psychic experiences that cannot be explained, yet also can't be fully denied. Finding out why there’s an Angora rabbit on the cover is not the only thing that’s going to make the reader think twice.

Otherwise Known The Story of A Life Otherwise Known A Life Not So Different From Your Own edition by Peggy Merriman Religion Spirituality eBooks

The title of this book is very appropriate for the autobiography created.

Special dedication to your father and credit to Jay Freeman is a perfect introduction to this book.

All the information has been carefully researched and documented appropriately after/before each poem. The Prologue, Part I, The Awakening, and Part II, Dark Matter, each give excellent explanations for the poetry and special information.
The research in preparation to writing this book is excellent and it is included in the book.
It is honest and positive.
I am pleased to recommend this book for reading!!!

Otherwise Known The Story of A Life Otherwise Known A Life Not So Different From Your Own edition by Peggy Merriman Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Ms. Merriman’s poetry and prose is humorous as well as fascinating. With insight and candor she draws upon spiritual and mystical dimensions of our collective unconscious In her poem Reflections she writes 'Look in the mirror; look at me. Do you know what this is, why I’m tired of being tired, afraid of fear itself? You say I don’t have to be this way but I have tried truth, and found it wanting'. Au contraire. Ms. Merriman has found truth, and it’s not wanting. Highly recommended.
Peggy shares her life experiences with insightful thoughts and beautiful poetry.
I thoroughly enjoyed the this book!
Merriman guides us though her unique style of poetry and delves into philosophy with a gentle yet authoritative manner. By examining the origins and definitions of key words and phrases used in her prose throughout the book, she encourages readers to reflect on their own existentialism. I found this book to be extremely enlightening and thought provoking. Pick it up!
Ms. Merriman's book of memoir poems, briefly explained stanza by stanza, is reflective musing on family, life, disabilities, love and health. Her poems, which might be disturbing to some, highlight mental, physical, emotional and spiritual journeys that are universal, and challenges labels and belief systems. They show a level of personal introspection well beyond her years of age. Ron and Rebecca Cole
Ms. Merriman writes with a sage's crisp, clean condensed clarity. She has captured the need for both a sense of self and the need to let go of whatever gets in the way of finding that core. Throughout, her poetry hits the notes just right and flows with grace and humor. I especially liked the way she explains her thoughts in prose, not unlike the convention in "Ten Poems to Change your Life," by Housden. I especially was drawn to the poem "Always" as it is lyrical, simple and embodies so many truths.
