BOOK 5 IN THE SERIES...a slightly different formula than the rest of the series, It took a bit longer for the romance to begin, but it was a fun twist to start with. Rachel and Jake have been across the lake neighbors for three years, admiring each other from afar. Rachel is a wood carver who recently acquired fame, but she still enjoys spying on her sexy neighbor while he skinny dips. Jake, on the other hand, is busying building up his WARM (Weres Against Random Mating) campaign, and avoiding thoughts of his lovely neighbor. But that's hard to do when he owns her first sculpture, a wolf which looks just like him. Staying away is impossible when Jake sees a bear and her cub lingering around Rachel's workshop. He quickly shifts, saves the day, and gets injured. Not one to let a hurt animal slink away, Rachel takes him in, and now Jake is stuck with his secret crush.
Rachel is kind of dumb for taking in a random wolf that she knows nothing about, but lucky for her, that wolf spends most of his time as a man, so he was no threat. It was funny to watch as Jake tries to figure out how to get away so that he can shift and heal, but Rachel is determined to do things the hard way. Jake crosses the line at being shaved though! Eventually she has to let him go, but she watches as the mysterious wolf lets himself in Jake's house. From there, Rachel does some snooping which leads her to discovering Jake's secret. Now, it's time for him to hold her hostage while they figure this mess out!
The sexual tension is palpable. Like all of VLT’s stories, the sexual attraction is instant without being ridiculous. Her hero, Jake, is like a live wire and more than a little interested while her heroine, Rachel, is sweetly if decidedly drawn to Jake. However, neither one are slobbering beasts (pun intended) with only sex on their minds. What I like is that both of these characters is drawn to the other increasingly over time rather than instantly. There is an instant sexual attraction, but it burns like an ember over time. That’s just great writing.
It has a good ol’ fashioned love connection. Beautifully, these two characters fall into love just like they do in the best romantic comedies. He loves her, but can’t love her. She loves him, but she’s too shy to go for it. They help each other become better versions of themselves by challenging their personal perspectives on life. And, of course, they just can’t fight that feeling anymore.
The heroine is sympathetic and charming. Rachel is strong in her own way, but she’s also caring and concerned about those in her world. Her relationship with Lionel, her 19-year-old assistant, is one of my favorite parts of the book. She’s nurturing without being too motherly. Plus, there are several points in the story where her mental processes (panic) ring so true. I absolutely love the end of the story (no I’m not going to spoil anything) when Rachel is equal parts terrified and confident. Her thoughts turn into an amusing and endearing adrenaline-induced mania.
There are plenty of giggle worthy scenes in this story which is yet another reason why I am a fan of this series. I'm always guaranteed to get at least get a couple of smiles out of every book.

Werewolf in Alaska A Wild About You Novel Vicki Lewis Thompson 9780451415677 Books Reviews
Rachel was an engaging character, and her quiet appreciation for Jake's appearance is entertaining. The chemistry when they meet is fun to watch. Jake himself has a few reasons to avoid the relationship, but of course those soon fade. This was a comfortable, enjoyable read, as were the other books of werewolves in various geographic locations!
As always Vicki Lewis Thompson spins another tale that catches your interest at the very first page, and doesnt loose it to the very last page. She always leaves you with a great feeling and wishing the story was longer!
I do and always will recommend her writing to anyone who likes a good read, a "get you involved" novel. Can barely stand the wait for the nest one in this series!
Only took me a few days to read this one between work and school. Easy to read and several passages made me chuckle. Wishing they would have went more into the Were / Human issues however the story itself (spoiler alert) has a happy ending. Wondering where Lionel's career is going to go. End of the story action typically you would see in the middle of a book but still would recommend this for an enjoyable read. Keep up the entertaining work Ms. Vicki Lewis Thompson.
As ever, this is indeed another winner by VLT. I was so excited when this one of her werewolf series came out, now I absolutely cannot wait for the next one!
I liked this story for it's cuteness and lightness. I almost gave 3 stars because there doesn't seem to be much storyline- the hero heads up a group wanting weres to mate only with weres and not humans yet he falls for a human and still denies it up til the end- sex as usual and some cuteness and funny scenarios that are typical -only tension came at teh very very end and was just rushed IMO but I still enjoy the cuteness of her stories. not my fave in this series but still cute.
This was a fun quick read with a lot of humor. It was a bit different angle from the previous story because you expect Locker to be a much more serious character. I felt the ending was a bit convenient and made you wonder whether- without that drama- would they have been able to work it out. It did upset me that their 'love' was not enough to overcome the barriers between them without a nudge. The characters in the first book were much more developed and memorable to me.
This is book five in the Wild About You series. They are fun, sexy and well written stories dealing with werewolves finding their mates. They are funny and at time a bit heartbreaking. But what good love story doesn't have a few bumps along the way?
Rachel Miller has inherited her grandfathers lakeside cabin in the tiny town of Polecat Alaska. She has been training to become a vet, but her true passion is her art. She carves beautiful wild animals. Including her inspiration, a huge black wolf.
Jake Hunter lives across the lake from Rachel, and one day wanders into the local grocery store and spots a piece of her work. A carving of a wolf. One similar to himself, but slightly different. His father. He is taken by the piece and buys it. Rachel's first sale. The sale that gives her the confidence to dive whole hearted into her art.
She quits the vet training, and three years later is a very well known Alaskan artist, specializing in wolf carvings. All thanks to her sexy across the lake neighbor, who likes to spend his evenings swimming naked in the lake.
Jake has a problem, he's wanted to get to know Rachel a whole lot better since the first time he met her. But that would go against everything he believes and promotes to the were community. Weres, should only mate with other weres. He has formed an organization to help promote this idea, W.A.R.M. Werewolves Against Random Mating. But the more he fights his attraction to Rachel the more he finds himself falling hard.
I recommend this book and this series, if you like quick reads, sexy shifters, and very nice love stories written with a bit of humor.
